4 Trends in Luxury Housing

Luxury Housing Trends - Roman Temkin

Today's upscale home buyer can afford the luxury, and that is exactly what many of them want.

Luxurious Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Today's upscale home buyer may want two master suites. This is perfect for a multi-generational family, or for the couple who has grown children or parents who come to visit.

Master bathrooms are becoming a thing of true beauty. Where in the past, the bath was purely a place of function; they are now one of the grandest rooms in the home. Some buyers are actually requesting a totally marble bathroom. Although this is not the most practical finish for a bathroom, it is beautiful. This buyer is not going to be cleaning the bathroom anyway, so they are not concerned about practicality.

Freestanding bathtubs are also very sought-after in upscale homes. Whether it is an old-fashioned looking claw-foot tub, or a sleek, modern, soaking tub, free standing is the way to go.

Rooms for Pleasure and Entertainment

More and more buyers are requesting single-use rooms. Some examples would be:

• A wine cellar with separate cooling to maintain the correct temperature.

• A private movie theatre.

• A private elevator.

• A home gym.

Luxury Outdoors Spaces

A swimming pool has long been a staple of an upscale home, but today the trend has gone far beyond the rectangular, concrete swimming pool. The infinity edge swimming pool is still with us, but they are being created to look more natural in the surroundings. Instead of the rectangular shaped pool, the new pools are apt to be more curvaceous and flowing. Fences made of glass will replace the steel or plastic pool fence. These nearly disappear into the background. Also, ponds will be found tucked away between patios of artistic sandstone, stamped concrete, or decorative brick.

Luxurious patios are now also being composed of snap-together bamboo tiles that are easy to install, have slats for water to pass through so there is no pooling, and they have a plastic grid on the back to allow for air-flow. Because they are not wood, but actually a fast growing grass, they are eco-friendly. These bamboo tiles can be used indoors or out allowing a continuous flooring to run from your pool deck to a patio and into your house should you choose.

More Technology and Conservation

In the age in which we are living, life is becoming more automated. For this reason, today's upscale home may come equipped with central charging stations, keyless entry, and garages that look like they may have been designed by the creator of The Jetsons.
